Inclusive space
Creating space, reducing barriers
Easily access the library services you need with our ground-level entrance, connected mezzanines, accessible, gender-neutral bathrooms, wide aisles, and user-centred wayfinding tools.
The library's redesign takes a holistic view of accessibility and inclusion, considering the many ways that programming, collections, and digital services interact with your physical space to create a more inclusive experience overall.
Reducing stack heights not only makes books more physically accessible for you, it improves navigation, safety, and access to natural light. Linking the mezzanine level to elevators and staff areas increases your connection to staff and services, placing them in the centre of the library ecosystem, rather than a dark and abandoned corner.
YOUR LIBRARY EXPERIENCE WILL INCLUDE:
1. Accessible, gender-neutral washrooms
2. Ground level entry at the front of Centennial Hall
3. Lower shelf heights and wider aisles throughout the library
4. Expanded elevator access to all floors and mezzanines
5. More access to services and staff on all levels of library
