Sequence of events
2022: The Schematic Design report is updated to cover details from the Design Development phase, such as building code, structural modifications and exterior cladding, HVAC and electrical systems, acoustics, and energy modeling.
Library stakeholders are engaged to help to develop interior modeling and visual materials, with an eye toward engaging in fundraising activities.
In a March 2022 referendum, University of Winnipeg students vote to support the library renewal project, ensuring the next generation of students has a modern, inclusive space for studying and collaboration.
2021: Schematic Design is completed; a report is delivered to University administration outlining the proposed interior and exterior configurations, materials, and systems to be used.
Design sevelopment begins, and renewed conversations with campus stakeholders are planned throughout the year to further develop details.
2020: The schematic design process begins, further refining required spaces and programming within a redeveloped Centennial Hall.
2019: Test fit exercises are undertaken to refine programming requirements, turning consultation results into proposed allocations within the Centennial Hall facility.
2018: An RFP is issued, and the Indigenous Design Studio at Brook McIlroy Inc. is selected to lead the renewal process.
Functional consultations are held with Library and University stakeholders.
Over 100 students, staff, and faculty are consulted on the programing and spaces desired in a redeveloped Library, Archives, and Art Gallery.
2017: ACE (Asset & Campus Enhancement) consultations identify priorities related to student space, Library programming, and an aging Centennial Hall.
An internal planning team is created to move forward with the renewal process.
2016: The 2016-2021 IARP (Integrated Academic & Research Plan) highlights the Library as a critical academic support, calling for key investments in both physical infrastructure and programming.Below is a summary of the renewal process so far, with key events, reports, and actions undertaken.
The planning process has been led by an internal planning team consisting of the office of the Dean of the Library, UWCRC Chief Development Officer, members of University Administration, and BrookMcIlroy.
2015: A call to action on the need for Library renewal is delivered in the State of the University Address.
