UWinnipeg is kicking off this year’s Pride Week on May 13, and you’re invited to celebrate with us! Attend any or all of our excellent Pride Week events listed below, and be sure to register to walk with UWinnipeg in the Pride Parade on June 2.

Pride t-shirts are available for students who register for the parade, while quantities last.

UWinnipeg Pride t-shirts are also available at the UWinnipeg Bookstore throughout May and June, at the Deep Cuts + Future Projections event on May 29, featuring the work of UWinnipeg alum Noam Gonick, and at the Pride Winnipeg Festival at The Forks. Proceeds from t-shirt sales supports UWinnipeg's Alumni Association 2SLGBTQ+ Student Award.

Drag Workshop Series & Showcase – May 13, 15, 16 and June 1

Drag Workshop Series & Showcase | May 13, 15 & 16 Workshops

Performance in the Bulman Centre | June 1 | 3–5 p.m.

Get ready to slay with the University of Winnipeg Queer Student Association, Rainbow Lounge, and the University of Winnipeg Student Association at our collaborative drag workshop! Taking place over three days, participants will get to learn the ins and outs of performing, navigating the drag community, creating fierce looks, and much more. The best part? Participants will be learning directly from local drag performers! Whether there is a specific area of drag that you want to learn more about, or you want the full drag package, there’s something for everyone. All this learning will culminate in our Pride Week Drag Showcase event on Saturday June 1st from 2-5pm in the UWSA Bulman Centre, where participants will be able to show off what they’ve learned, and spectators can revel in amazing drag performances.  

Monday May 13 - Navigating the Drag Scene and Performing with Minokawa Song and C.L.A.M. 
Let’s cover the basics of what it's like to enter the Winnipeg drag scene, learning from two newer performers who are fresh taking this journey themselves. From booking to branding to how to perform, this workshop will be a mix of discussions and active learning, allowing participants to begin to prepare for a performance. 

Wednesday May 15 - Drag Makeup How-To with Orion Sbelt and Miss Asuma Gender. Learn from some of the best on the basics of drag makeup and follow along to recreate some iconic looks with Miss Gender and Orion! Participants will be able to follow along to learn new makeup skills and explore how they may present themselves in drag.  

Thursday May 16 – Drag Q&A Panel with Orion Sbelt, Ruby Chopstix, Jolean Ground Beef, and C.L.A.M. 
All your questions answered! All the secrets revealed! In this panel discussion lead by Brie Villeneuve, learn directly from performers from all corners of Winnipeg’s drag community. Panel discussion will be followed by a meet and mingle session where participants will be able engage with performers and each other to wrap up the week of learning.

Gallery 1C03 is hosting a closing reception for WHAT WE MAKE IV: UWinnipeg Staff and Student Exhibition on Thursday, May 16, from 3:00 and 5:30 pm. The theme of the exhibit is What does equity, diversity and inclusion mean to you? We will have formal remarks at 3:15 pm with Larissa Wodtke, UWinnipeg’s Program Officer, EDI, Anti-Racism, & Decolonization and Research as well as a member of the UWSA.

2SLGBTQ+ People and Ceremony – May 21

The Office of Indigenous Engagement's Lunch and Learn series is hosting a talk on 2SLGBTQ+ People and Ceremony, featuring Elders Barbara Bruce and Charlotte Nolin and moderated by Dr. Chantal Fiola. The Elders will discuss their journey as Two-Spirit people, Two-Spirit discrimination in ceremonial spaces, and why ceremonies are important for 2SLGBTQ+ and gender diverse people.

2-Spirit Archives Display – May 27–31

The Two-Spirit Archives was established in 2019 to recognize, centre, document, and preserve the legacy of Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, and Indigenous LGBTQIA+ people. This exhibition will display a few of the historic documents within the collection that highlight the stories and experiences of Two-Spirit people in Manitoba and throughout North America.

Beading Workshop – May 27

Join Candice Allard from the Manitoba Metis Federation in a Pride themed Beading Workshop on May 27th, 11:00am - 12:00pm in Aboriginal Student Services Centre  - room 2L01B. Create your own fashionable Beaded Pin to add to your style for this year’s Pride Month. Everything will be the supplied in all the rainbow colors. Everyone is welcome!

Looking to explore more queer media to enjoy this summer? All community members are welcome to come and share your favorite queer books, movies, music, artwork – any form of media!

Show and Tell will take place in the Library on the 4C level.

Pride Parade – June 2

All are invited to join UWinnipeg as we walk in the Pride Parade on Sunday June 2nd!

All students who plan to walk with the UWinnipeg group, and don't already have a UW Pride t-shirt, can request one through the RSVP form as quantities last. Additionally, all students that RSVP will be entered to win a $30 gift card to Leopolds Tavern.

The UWinnipeg group will meet at our designated location between 9:30am to 10:00am.  Further details will be provided to all who register by May 30.
