2SLGBTQ+ Scholarship
Since 2018, The University of Winnipeg has provided a student award for students who identify as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association 2SLGBTQ+ Student Award is a $500 award for a second-, third-, or fourth-year undergraduate student who is active in community service or demonstrates academic promise in research on topics with particular relevance to the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
The award was initially funded by the Alumni Association Past Presidents Legacy Fund, which was created in 2010 by the UWinnipeg Alumni Council, as well as by the Mary C. Rowell Prize fund. Ongoing support for the award will include proceeds from sales of a UWinnipeg Pride t-shirt designed by Graphic Designer Trevor Thomas.
“As the mother of a gay son, I understand first-hand the historic and current struggles and discrimination faced by individuals in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. I applaud the success and achievements of these special individuals and take PRIDE in being part of a university which not only recognizes and acknowledges diversity in its student population, but rewards it as well,” said Judith Neumann, UWinnipeg Alumni Association president.
Eligible students may apply for the University of Winnipeg Alumni Association 2SLGBTQ+ Student Award via the Awards & Financial Aid webpage on the UWinnipeg website during the application period, from approximately July to September of each year.
To support the scholarship, you can buy t-shirts at the Bookstore.
