Tips & Tricks
Some topics that will be covered at the workshop (Date: October 2, 12:30-1:20pm in room 1RC028, or join via Zoom):
- Symposium Format
- How to Present your Poster
- What are the Judges looking for in a winning poster & presentation?
- Important Dates and Deadlines
The workshop guest presenter is an experienced judge and will share some excellent tips and tricks to help create a prize-winning poster and presentation.
Remember to target your presentation at a 'lower-level' of understanding. Keep in mind that your judges will not have a background in your field of expertise. Practice in front of a mirror. Practice in front of a friend or family member. Practice in front of someone who knows your area of expertise, and someone who knows nothing at all about what you do. Practice, practice, practice!
List of Potential Judges Questions:
- What year are you in? How long have you been working on this project?
- Why did you choose this specific project?
- What did you find most challenging/surprising/or exciting about your project?
- If you had to start all over again, what advice would you give yourself or what would you have done differently?
- What’s so important about this research? How will your results change the field?
- What is the next step in the project?
