Passwords
Faculty, Staff and Students who have a WebAdvisor/Colleague Account and want to update their network password:
Please visit the WebAdvisor page. You will have three options near the bottom left of the page.
- Forgot My Password: Once you have reached the password page, please enter your personal email address. It must match the one that the University has on record (not your UW Webmail). If your account can be identified, an email will be sent with instructions on how to reset your password.
- Forgot My Username: Once you have reached the forgot username page, please enter your first and last name, along with your personal email address. It must match the one that the University has on record (not your UW Webmail). If your account can be identified, an email will be sent with your username.
- Change My Password: You must know your current password in order to update it. Please enter your username and current password. You will then enter your new password twice. Please ensure your password follows ALL of these requirements:
Your password must be a minimum of 14 characters (to a maximum of 24) and meet the following requirements:
- Must not include parts of your User ID
- Must not include parts of your first or last name that exceed two consecutive characters
- At least one uppercase character from A-Z
- At least one lowercase character from a-z
- At least one number from 0-9
- At least one special character! “ # $ % ‘ * + ) ( - . / ] [ ^ _
** Please remember that you must have DUO Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) activated on your account in order to login **
To install DUO MFA: Set-up DUO
If you have a DUO account but have changed your mobile device: Activate a new device on DUO
Faculty and Staff who DO NOT have a WebAdvisor/Colleague Account and want to update their password:
- Faculty and Staff can change their current password to a new one through your M365 account.
- Microsoft Change Your Password
- You may see the Microsoft prompt to ‘Pick an Account’. Please select your uwinnipeg.ca account.
- If you receive that prompt and have selected your uwinnipeg.ca account, you will then be asked to enter your current password. Following that, you will need to authenticate using DUO MFA.
- When you are logged in and authenticated, you will have a new window appear titled ‘Change Your Password’.
- Please enter your updated password in the ‘New Password’ field. Then re-enter the same one in the ‘Confirm New Password’ field.
- Click on ‘Submit’.

If you do not remember your password or have been locked out
Please contact the Service Desk during business hours either by phone (204-786-9149) or email (servicedesk@uwinnipeg.ca). Once your identity has been validated and you are provided with a new temporary password, you will need to create your own personalized one. How to do that depends on whether you have a WebAdvisor/Colleague account or not. Please see the appropriate instructions listed on this page.
