The University of Winnipeg is committed to ensuring that all students have equal access to higher learning.

International students have a variety of ways to subsidize their education. Full-time international students are eligible for Entrance and In-Course awards as long as they meet the published criteria.

Automatic Entrance Awards

International Special Entrance Scholarship Program

The University of Winnipeg offers International Special Entrance Scholarships to new international students entering studies at the UWinnipeg in the academic year following graduation from a high school outside of Canada. We will offer these scholarships automatically during the regular admissions application process; a separate scholarship application is not required. Advanced Placement (AP) & International Baccalaureate (IB) Entrance Scholarships

The University of Winnipeg automatically selects incoming students for AP and IB scholarships once Admissions receives their final examination results and confirms their eligibility. For detailed information on the AP/IB Entrance Scholarships, visit our Entrance Awards webpage.

President’s Scholarship for World Leaders

The University of Winnipeg President's Scholarship for World Leaders is awarded to international students entering any of the University's divisions for the first-time:
Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate, PACE or ELP.

Eligibility

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an international student.
  • Must be a student entering their first program at UWinnipeg.
  • Must have the equivalent of a Canadian 80% grade average, based on Grade 12 academic courses used for admission (excluding ELP). UWinnipeg International Credential Evaluators will complete grade conversions.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities.
  • Completed an admission application to UWinnipeg by the scholarship deadline.
    • The application for admission is complete only when the admissions office has received all application fees and supporting documentation.
  • Must be registered and maintain full-time course load.

How to apply

  1. Complete an application for admission to The University of Winnipeg.
    • The admissions department will assign you a UWinnipeg Student number when you start an application for admission. Only applications with valid student ID number will be reviewed.
  2. Complete the web application form.
    • Important! Incomplete admission packages will not be reviewed. Each applicant may only submit one application for the current cycle.
    • These are the required documents you must include with this application. Please make sure they are translated in English if in another language.

      3. Two Reference Letters

Wu Chung Scholarship

The Wu Chung Scholarships recognize the academic achievements and leadership potential of international students from Huadu, in the region of Guangzhou, and Hong Kong, China. The Wu Chung Scholarship Fund was established in 2005 by Sir Gordon Wu, Chairman of Hopewell Holdings Limited to honour his father, Wu Chung, who instilled in him the belief that education makes a difference.

Wu Chung Scholarship recipients will receive full support for the following expenses while studying at the University of Winnipeg:

  • UW undergraduate tuition and fees for up to 4 calendar years of undergraduate study consisting of up to 30 credit hours in fall and winter terms and up to 9 credit hours in spring term;
  • Textbooks and course-related supplies, as well as incidental costs related to studies;
  • Accommodation and monthly meal plan in UW Housing; and
  • Reimbursement of up to $2500 for air travel to Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

Eligibility

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Huadu, Guangzhou or Hong Kong, China;
  • Meet all academic and English language proficiency requirements for admission to the University of Winnipeg as an International Student and be eligible to enter Canada with a valid study permit;
  • Have not studied at any other post-secondary institution;
  • Have a minimum 70% grade average (or equivalent) from qualifying Level 3 high school courses used for admission (grade average is competitive); and
  • Provide evidence of exceptional leadership qualities and potential to make a positive impact on their community and the world following studies at the University of Winnipeg.

The scholarship application must be submitted before applying for admission to studies at the University of Winnipeg. Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee consisting of UW staff, management and/or faculty.

*All required documents must be translated in English if in another language. Only complete scholarship application packages will be reviewed.

After adjudication, Wu Chung Scholarship recipient(s) will be required to apply for Admission to the University of Winnipeg.

Currently registered international students are welcome to apply for consideration. The bulk of awards and scholarships are awarded in the Fall term.

Student Aid for International Students

USA Student Loans

Students from the United States attending The University of Winnipeg are eligible for student financial assistance. Visit the US Student Aid page for more information on FAFSA and other programs available.

Canadian Government Student Aid

Canadian government student aid and loans are not currently available to international students.

To qualify for government student aid, you must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident (landed immigrant) or protected person.
