Applying for Admission
General Information
All applications to the Developmental Studies program are submitted online to the Admissions Office: How to Apply
Students who have been previously enrolled at University of Winnipeg and are returning after more than a one year absence must complete a Continuance form.
Deadline Dates
Developmental Studies has a rolling admission, but we highly encourage students to apply at least 4-5 months before they wish to start school. This allows time for your application to be processed. The suggested deadlines to apply are:
- Fall (September): July 2
- Winter (January): November 1
- Spring (May): March 1
Admission to Stream C (Child Development and Child Care Stream)
To enroll in Stream C, applicants must first apply for admission to the University of Winnipeg and then be selected to the program.
Application Routes:
- Category A: Applicants holding a two-year Early Childhood Education Diploma or an equivalent diploma from another community college.

- Category B: Applicants entering directly from high school or transferring from another faculty/program.

Stream C - Direct Entry Requirements [PDF]
Application Steps:
- Submit the University Application Form.
- Complete the Stream C Application Form: In addition to the University Application form, students must also submit a Program Application Form for Stream C, which includes:
- Developmental Studies Stream-C Application Form [PDF]
- Two Letters of Reference: One of which must be from an employer, a supervisor, or colleague in an employment or a volunteer position. Candidates should not submit reference letters from family members.
- Autobiography: A personal narrative, no longer than 4 standard pages with 1.5 line spacing, addressing:
- Personal background and motivation for entering the childcare field;
- Academic profile, including strengths and weaknesses;
- Work experience, outlining jobs held and involvement in any organizations and associations;
- Special abilities or interests in the arts, languages, athletics, etc.; and
- Academic and professional goals, indicating whether studies will be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis.
3. Diploma Submission: If applicable, diploma entry applicants must provide the original ECE II Diploma and, if available the ECE III Diploma.
Submission Process
All application forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the Admissions Office. A copy will be forwarded to the Developmental Studies office for review. After the review process is complete, the Director of Developmental Studies will notify the Admissions Office of the applicant's acceptance status. Student will then receive an official acceptance letter from the Admissions Office.
