Lara Rae named one of Manitoba’s 150 Women Trailblazers
Thu. Jan. 28, 2021
Lara Rae, one of our fabulous contract faculty members in WGS, has recently been announced as one of the recipients of Manitoba’s 150 Women Trailblazer Awards.
According to the Nellie McClung Foundation’s website, the awards, presented by the Foundation in partnership with the Winnipeg Free Press, honour Nellie McClung’s vision by recognizing the spirit of her life’s work being advanced by women leaders of today or throughout Manitoba’s history. The 150 Manitoba Women trailblazers were officially announced on January 28, 2021, the 105th anniversary of most Manitoba women being the first in Canada to receive the right to vote.
In addition to her work teaching for the WGS department, Lara is a comedian, television and radio writer. She co-founded the Winnipeg Comedy Festival with CBC Radio's Tom Anniko in 2002, and she worked as artistic director of the festival for 18 years.
Lara is a Gemini nominee, PRIX Roma (Italy) winner, Perrier Award nominee, and shares three Canadian Comedy Awards for writing.
Recently, she founded a food insecurity group called PANTRY, a community organization that provides food, winter clothing and other supplies to struggling residents. Learn more about Pantry or find them on Facebook.
Congratulations, Lara, on this very well-deserved recognition!
